São João do Monte is a parish in the municipality of Tondela. In this village, you can visit the main church, the forest, many mills, fountains, the Roman bridge, and also the old jail.
The parish of São João do Monte is located in the Caramulo Mountains and consists of 20 villages: Abóboda, Almejofa, Almofala, Belazaima, Braçal, Caselho, Castelo, Daires, Souto, Dornas, Valdasna, Vale do Lobo, and Valeiroso.
São João do Monte is the largest parish in the municipality of Tondela and is bordered by the parishes of Varzielas and Arca in the municipality of Oliveira de Frades.
The parish of São João do Monte is most visited in the summer because the forest allows for picnics and then you can cool off in its river beach.
Paraíso River Beach, also known as São João do Monte River Beach, is located on the west side of the Caramulo Mountains, in the municipality of Tondela, Viseu district.
The location and access to this river beach are very easy, as you just need to head towards São João do Monte on the N230 road, and the river beach is right next to the road that passes over the Águeda River.
In June, the feast of St. John the Baptist is celebrated. On the eve, there is a sardine barbecue, and on the day itself, there is a mass at the main church, followed by the festivities. São João do Monte has a large square where a fair is held on the third Sunday of every month.
