Algarve Bike Challenge
The Algarve Challenge takes place in February/March and is a race contested by the world’s mountain biking elite, while also being open to ambitious amateur athletes. Sign up and take part!
The Algarve Bike Challenge is part of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) calendar as an S2 category event and is the most important stage race in mountain biking in Portugal, featuring the presence of the world’s best athletes.
This event is a challenge and an experience that no mountain biker remains indifferent to. It includes two competitions: the Algarve Bike Challenge UCI — a UCI Category 2 race, exclusive to Elite athletes with a UCI license, whose regulations are based on UCI rules for this type of race (XCS) — and the Algarve Bike Challenge Open Race, open to licensed and non-licensed athletes under specific regulations.
All stages start and finish in the historic center of Tavira, but each route will be different. Participants race in teams of two, putting team spirit to the test, and will ride over hills and valleys, cross streams, and follow the best trails of the coast, the barrocal (limestone hills), and the Serra do Caldeirão. The true challenge of the Algarve Bike Challenge is not only about winning, but about sharing the true spirit of mountain biking and pushing personal limits in constant contact with nature in its purest state.
