Adegas das Canadas are a set of four typical houses: Adega Pedra do Lagar, Adega Velha, Casa da Vigia and Casa da Figueirinha. They are located in the parish of Calheta de Nesquim, 18 km from the village of Lajes do Pico.
The Adega Velha (Map Location - click here) and the Adega Pedra do Lagar (Map Location - click here) stand in place of the Canadas, an area of vineyards protected by lava stone corrals that characterize a significant part of the island's landscape and that earned it the classification of world heritage.
The houses in this area of the parish are mainly cellars where artisanal wine is produced with the scent of wood and the delicious harvested grapes.
These nice little houses (cellars) are also used as summer houses.
Pedra do Lagar and Adega Velha were, in the very recent past, wineries for the artisanal production of wine. They were rebuilt into summer houses keeping the original architecture.

The house has high sentimental value as it came from a family heritage and, before being rebuilt, was the home of former whalers.
The Casa da Figueirinha (Map Location - click here) was recovered in 2018 and is one of the most recent houses. In its reconstruction, its traditional exterior architecture was maintained, but the interior spaces were reorganized in order to create more comfort for guests. Very wide with good areas as well as excellent landscapes and outdoor leisure spaces.
From outside the houses, you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape, essentially made up of vineyards surrounded by lava stone walls, enjoy the friendly dolphins, sunbathe. Diving into the blue water of the natural pool of Poça das Mujas located about 5 minutes away can be another option.
